Pinnawala, The Elephant Orphanage – Sri Lanka

An orphanage for majestic creatures of the jungle, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage offers care and loving protection over many orphaned Asian elephants found in the tropics of Sri Lanka. First established in 1975 as a sanctuary for orphaned baby elephants, it now stands as a large orphanage extending care for a large number of these magnificent creatures. There are events like bathing, feeding and walking these Asian elephants. It’s a highly anticipated event by both the tourist and local crowd. As it lies by the Ma oya (Ma River) each day these elephants are taken to the stream to bathe them.
